Somatic Experiencing® is a body-based approach to healing trauma, and the life’s work of Dr. Peter Levine.

In 2020, I qualified as an SEP and RSME/T

Somatic Experiencing Practitioner  and

Registered Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist

I offer:

  • one-to-one Somatic Experiencing sessions for people from all backgrounds

  • trauma-informed support for artists in creative process, or as an integrated part of a project

  • a trauma-informed perspective in my teaching and facilitation, and to artist-led social justice initiatives

As a dancer, I am rooted in improvisation with an orientation towards touch, image and sensation. My introductions to diverse Somatic approaches (BMC, Skinner releasing, Feldenkreis, Authentic Movement, Experiential Anatomy) intitially came via Contact Improvisation, which also draws from martial arts and meditation practices (capoeira, qi gong, aikido forms).

CI is hugely complimentary to SE because they both rely on tracking body sensations. Subtle ‘micro-movements’ can indicate latent movement organisations whose expressions can help to release held trauma in the body.

From arts practice, I bring to SE a rigorous understanding of movement, presence, imagery, and creative tools to access to what can be difficult to express through language alone.

My focus shifted towards trauma and the nervous system in 2017 working with intergenerational trauma in relation to systemic racism, for How to Be Afraid?

I am committed to developing anti-racist practices, and moving towards intergenerational healing and collective liberation.
